Well Gill, Harris and myself set out this morning with high hopes of bagging a trophy buck or at least a good sized doe, ether way it would be meat in the freezer.
We were amazed at the early hour that some hunters actually start shooting ..... anyway we scouted our area weeks before season and felt confident that we would have great success on opening day.
Harris saw nine doe but was unable to get a safe sound shot off (that shows great sportsmanship) .... Gill saw two doe and a nice buck but he also couldn't get a clear safe shot (another great sportsman)
I saw one of the two doe that gill saw and had a good shot but before I could take it, the doe darted away .... my second doe was just as nice as the first but the window of opportunity was very short and she vanished as quickly as she appeared.
At 9:20 A.M. I noticed some movement in a thicket and made out the distinctive head dress of what appeared to be a 6-point buck, small bodied but a good clean double lung shot ..... he ran about 20 yards and fell .... turned out to be an 8-pointer that field dressed at 125lbs.
We took a break and drove over to "Rance's Deer Check-in & Processing" where I'm having the beast ground up into venison burger.....
We tried going back out about 1pm but the wind really started blowing and the rain started falling and so we decided to call it a day ..... We will try it again tomorrow.

Sunday was a bust, windy and rainy. This morning (Monday) I sat in Gill's stand and saw 20 big & little doe, down in the flats amongst the trees ... too far away for a clear shot, there was a BIG BUCK with them .... 10 or 12 pointer, he had them all going in circles.... then they just left without saying good by. At 4:30P.M. I got REVENGE for my beagle, Tagged a Coyote at 25 yards with a 240gr jacketed hollow point .... I hope he makes it home so his family can "Eat Him ALIVE" Other than that, there's always tomorrow, .... think I'll sit in Gill's stand again. Gill & Harris, I have got to show you something really fantastic before you come hunting ..... call or come over some evening while it's still light.

That yote was following a very young injured doe and I took a break about 11;A.M. , found the blood trail and found the doe ... she was "Gut Shot" .... Sad thing but I know these things happen.
I cannot express enough about the importance of properly sighting in your fire arm.
That being said, I know first hand that there are always variables that take place while hunting that can by no means be foreseen. Twigs & branches in the line of fire can and often times deflect the bullet and cause unwanted injury to the animal or even a complete miss.
However you should always give fair chase, check for hair and blood and if you find blood, then fallow it. .... I would recommend waiting 1/2hour after the shot to pursue .... this will allow the deer time to lie down and go into shock .... then die.

If you guys could see what I saw today, you'd agree that we need more stands .... spread out all over, so we can get the "Creature From The Monster Swamp"!!
