I'm always trying to find places locally to go kayaking, for a day or for just a few hours. Saturday I was checking the distance from one bridge to the next by driving along the river on the river road and I couldn't help but notice how many people were camping out along the river's edge.
Every one of these camp's were very nice, clean and well organized and the camper's appeared to be having a great time ..... Now I'm not wanting to throw a wrench into the gears of progress ..... BUT .... Doesn't somebody own that property??
I remember taking week long canoe trips, years ago and camping on Islands or sandbars, all the time keeping a low profile so I would not have an angry land owner kick me off his property in the middle of the night.
I have seen areas along rivers edges that have NOT been kept up as nice as these, Some places become "Trashy" very quickly and it is an eyesore to everyone who passes.
Some of these campsites had real nice walk-paths from the road where the people parked, others actually had cut roads down to and along the river bank. Now this might make it easier to get their equipment to the camp site but come high water ... these exposed unprotected areas are prone to wash-outs and erosion.
Then I think ... What are these people doing with their trash??

I realize that its been quite awhile since I made the initial post on this subject but I went for a drive the other day and even with the snow on the ground I was able to see the once scenic and well kept riverside camping areas ... have turned into unsightly trash pits.
Diapers and beer bottles, broken lawn chairs and empty food cans, ruts in the ground where vehicles have gotten stuck, bed mattresses and even a shopping cart..
I had really hoped that the people would take care of the rivers edge, So many times I have seen where "People" just don't care about keeping anything looking NATURAL anymore.
I had ended the first post with a question = Then I think ... What are these people doing with their trash?? .... Now I know what they did with their trash.
I would think that in our world today with everyone thinking "GREEN", trying to conserve energy and wanting there to be a beautiful world for our children and our children's children. That we, who are here now and can truly make a difference, have fallen down on the job.
I for one, will not let them destroy my children's future heritage. I will continue cleaning up their trash. I will continue to reach out & educate them. ... AND ... I will not let them win!
My present & my children's future is at stake...... What will you do ?
