As we get older, our priorities change from year to year or sometimes century to century. For instance, when I was a young child and had No concept of time, It felt like the day lasted forever. Then I learned how to tell time and the now day's keep getting shorter and shorter, especially when I have a Wife & children, Mortgage & truck payments, Having to work two jobs .. So on and so forth ...
Then comes that blissful time when our children get Married and "MOVE OUT" (ye-aha) and its just my lovely bride and I again, EXCEPT this time we are NOT interested in baby making (lol) Instead we have more time to to devote to our own interest, such as paying off a wedding, paying off collage expenses and of course there's still the mortgage and maybe a new car payment.
Where are we now ?
Well, believe it or not I am in that Twilight Zone where the mortgage is actually paid off, the collage & wedding is paid off, the truck & car are paid off and I don't know how this happened but I actually have money in my savings and I know I cannot leave it there ... I have to BUY something I've always wanted .... "A MOTORCYCLE"
Remember the first four words of this post ?
Well, in the process of life I have had more than my fair share of accidents, where I have been busted up rather severely and with the progression of time these complications have only gotten worse. Therefore choosing a motorcycle that I can ride became a rather challenging endeavor.
I have Many Friends that own Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and they took me to several dealerships where I tried to mount many different types of bikes with no success .. As It seems, I cannot throw my leg up & over the saddle of a conventional motorcycle due to a serious accident that affects my hips.
I was beginning to think That my dreams of owning a motorcycle were fading fast ... until one day while visiting our son, He took me to his garage and showed me his Honda Reflex, a 250cc Scooter, and he told me about another Scooter that Honda makes that is a 600cc called the Honda Silver Wing.
I rode the Reflex for a year after the death of our son and as it was only a 250cc and I was rather heavy, it appeared to be rather sluggish for me, So I sold the Reflex and bought a Silver Wing and quickly found this larger bike to be Exactly what I wanted. I have ridden the silver wing All Over our beautiful State, In fact I put approximately 18,000 miles a year on it.
Many of my "SO CALLED" Harley-Davidson friends refuse to ride with me because "IT'S A SCOOTER" and they don't want anyone to see them riding with a Scooter.. HOWEVER .. I do have some truly Great friends that own Harley-Davidson's and they have absolutely no problems riding with me.
This Scooter cruses at 85mph with very little effort, I'm getting 60mpg at 60mph and I ride practically every day back & forth for work, Personally I would recommend one of these Scooters to anyone & everyone, they are such fun to ride and they are QUIET!!
Seeing how Harley-Davidson first started out by converting a bicycle into a motorcycle, I am surprised they did not get into the Scooters. Perhaps if they had, I would have bought a Harley-Davidson Scooter instead.
