There Is a Big Difference in the Hunting & Fishing World, When people go Fishing they will mostly go to "PUBLIC" waters. Lakes & Rivers, Ponds & Streams. Just about anywhere you look there is a "PUBLIC ACCESS" where most people go to enjoy the art of fishing. Hunting, On the other hand Is totally different.
Yes their are many "Public" lands available such as State owned properties around Reservoirs and State Parks but the majority of hunting is done on "PRIVATE" land. There are Trophies to be had in ether case, however, when you're hunting on "Public" lands you are hunting with allot of other people weather you want to or not. The competition to get a Trophy Buck is more difficult with every hunter out and about.
With more and more fishermen & Women practicing "Catch & Release" on Large Mouth & Small Mouth Bass, Muskie & Northern Pike the odds are growing that more and more people will catch some really large fish that they can photo and release as well. When your hunting it's completely different, You can't ask the animal to pose with you for a picture and then release it.
Sometimes It's easier to get permission to fish a private lake or pond than it is to get permission to hunt private land. It seems that most land-owners hunt the land themselves or they allow family members to hunt. A friend of mine was telling me about the Big fish section in the Fishing Regulation book and how MANY of the State & World Record Fish were taken from "PRIVATE" waters and how these fish shouldn't be allowed to win because Not Everyone Has an even opportunity to catch a State or World record fish from a private pond where the owner "FEED" the fish to make them grow bigger.
Again, Hunting is Different, Many people put out food plots to feed the deer and special licks to get the "BIG RACKS", spend Thousands of $$, However the deer will eat at one property and jump the fence onto another property and get harvested by someone who didn't spend a penny.
Well I know most of you understand the differences I'm speaking of, Just be careful out there, no matter what you are doing, Hunting or fishing.
On a side note, I was driving down a road and saw a "HEADLESS" road killed deer, I'm sure it was a Buck and I thought .... A person has to be really desperate to take a road kill deer's head and tell people .... "I SHOT THIS"
Don't misunderstand, Their are MANY great "PUBLIC" places to hunt and get some really nice rewards and their are MANY land-owners who might allow you to hunt on their land. I do know (I've seen it) you can go to a public fishing area and "TRASH IT" and it will still be available to you .... You "TRASH" Private Land and it will Not be available to you again.
