In the basement of my parents home, Dad had a 4ft X 3ft cast iron sink and I believe it was 6-8 inches deep and as a boy I can remember that sink being completely full of catfish, night after night, week after week ... All summer long.
All these cats were caught by my older brothers and when the returned home after an evening of fishing, It became a family affair in dressing these cats out.
I remember a time when I was too young to help but I always watched with great anticipation and curiosity for the day when I too could help in the dressing and finally that day came ... OUCH... those things have horns and they hurt.
As time passed I not only got to help at home but I also got to go cat fishing with my older brothers, who taught me everything they knew .... then I started paying attention to the activities of the cats, where they went during high water, where they ate, how they ate and what they ate.
Then one day without really noticing it, I was cat fishing all by myself and doing quite well. I cannot tell you how many catfish I have caught, eaten and given away over the years .... THEN .... for some strange reason I "Quit".
It was about 8 years ago, I just lost all interest in catfish. I started changing my tactics and targeted White Bass, Small Mouth Bass, Bluegill, Perch & Walleye and Sauger.
Lately I've been talking to several fishermen at work and all they can talk about is Cat Fish And with all this rain we've been having, I started remembering all the places I use to go and catch cats ...
OK, So I'm thinking about getting out this weekend and seeing if I still have what it takes .... It's a cat lovers thing .... I can pretend I don't love them .... But I do.
