Well hunting season is up on us again.:-)
remember you can not be to safe out there. Squirrel season opened up last Sunday. Always shoot up at squirrels! Shooting at a squirrel on the side of a tree sends your bullet going through the woods looking for something to stop them, trees, other hunters, hikers, car & trucks going down a country road. SO only shoot up, chase that squirrel on up that tree ,then knock it out. Skeeters are still out and can carry west Nile virus! Bee's can be down right unfriendly when you come up on their nest, and you lucky guys down south ,more so then us up north, snakes are still out and active. Don't step on them or put your hand on one, that up sets them as well.
A few years ago a buddy and myself was dove hunting at Kankakee F&W&A on Sept. the second day of the draw. HOT very HOT and any of you who dove hunt know what's hot weather is like sitting in an open field in the hottest part of the day for hours. You can't carry enough water with you, but try. We got drawed in field B the same field a couple guys walking out of the day before, and one took a break walking out. Told his buddy to go on and he would catch up. Well he never did! Had a heat stroke and died in the field BECAREFULL !! I made me a portable shade with a golf umbrella. Painted it dark colors and remover the wood handle. Took a 6ft piece of PVC tubing and cut into lengths to fit into a 5 gal bucket that I carry my decoys in, and got a few couplings to connect it to the height it takes to be over my head and give me shade without getting in my view. I can move it as the sun moves, and I am always sitting in the shade. Took a steel rod 30" push it into the ground to hold the PVC & umbrella. I welded an upside down L shape to the bottom of the rod ,so I can just shove it into the ground with my foot. I carry frozen water bottles and a couple three 2 liter water bottles with me. Just have to carry them out to wear you are going to sit, not like carrying them all over. I carry a cold pack in a small lined lunch type bag, to put the doves I kill in so they are cool and away from fly's, Put all these items in a camo carry bag with shoulder strap. Don't forget to pick up your shell cases, they are litter. Have fun and report your hunts here, and share the fun with us all.
