I'm currently using a Red-Dot scope on my .44 rifle and it works great, I've got it sighted in at 100 yards and I took a 7-pointer and two doe this last season.
I've never been a fan of scopes because my eyesight has always been very good and all I have ever used were open sights, However things are changing as I get older.
With my glasses I can still use the Red-Dot and I can still see over 100 yards, however there are days that I cannot use my glasses and then my vision is cut back somewhat.
My question is .... should I continue using the Red-Dot or get a magnifying scope and what is a good wide view scope for the money ?

For a good reasonable priced scope I would recommend the Nikon Rifleman in 3x9-44. plex. It is clear and easy to site in. You can adjust the magnification from 3 to 9 or just set it at about 4.5 and leave it. I would not bother with the bullet drop compensate because you really wont use it much if at all. If you are like me most of your shots are going to be from 20 to 75 yards at the most. With that 44 you could reach out to 200 if you wanted to but I doubt if you would more than 2 or 3 times in 3 or 4 years.
