In case you haven't noticed, The rut is over and with the pressure of hunters gone as well, The deer are starting to "Group" up again. Even though I've lived in the county for 30 years now, I never tire of watching and seeing deer.
This time of year you may see 15 or 60 in a group and It Is truly a sight to behold because I always get the feeling, especially during the last week of muzzle loader season when I don't see Anything and I think every deer in the county has been shot already. Now that I know the deer populating is doing very well, I can start making plans for next years hunt.

Another observation
I moved a deer stand from a open sand hill to a very thick somewhat marshy area and I was pruning trees & branches with my loppers for shooting windows. I took a break, climbed the stand and relaxed. Les than a minute I started seeing deer and I was really making allot of noise pulling branches.
The only think I could figure out is that the deer are def .... or there are so many leaves still on the shrubbery & small trees and they are absorbing the sound.

Last year, this area was hit very hard by the "BLUETOUNG DESEASE" and thousands of deer died as a result. I been out loping limbs along trails that I have made, Not deer. In fact its really hard to find a deer trail, I've been talking with my neighbors and we all are asking the same question .... have you seen any deer ?? ... and the answers are not very good, a small doe here and a young buck there.
There are counties very near ours that were not affected by the desease and their deer populations are booming, I have some very good friends that have invited me to hunt their ground and they have brought in pictures from their trail cams that show 10 to 20 deer moving through at a time. I ca remember when it was that way here in our county and it was not that long ago.
As always, I'll go out and sit in my stands and watch. Usually a couple of weeks before season, just to see whats going on out there and who knows, maybe something wonderful will happen. IF it were within my power, I would ban deer hunting in the counties that were affected by the BLUETOUNG DESEASE and allow the deer population time to recover. However its not up to me and I know that there are going to be thousands of hunters out there trying to put as much meat in their freezers as possible "OR" just a rack on their wall.
My brother Kevin came out and placed a trail cam out near a small tree that was rubed on, perhaps a single young Buck moving through the area. His actual trail or path was very hard to find, in fact we had to search a large area looking for another rub just to find out whitch way he was moving. We might collect the trail cam today and see what is moving through.
