While I still have one beagle, I'm planning on doing as much rabbit hunting as I can. Now that I have three deer tucked away in my freezer, Its time to turn my attention to more enjoyable things .... Rabbit Hunting. I wanted to get out this morning but the warm temps yesterday along with the rain have ruined it, we are suppose to be receiving a winter storm today ....SO I would calculate .... Wednesday. This will give me time to contact some neighbors and ask permission to hunt rabbit on their ground .... I find it odd that some neighbors will NOT allow me to hunt deer but WILL allow me to hunt rabbit on their property. I have a nephew that has two male beagles that he has been working with and is eagerly waiting to try them out, So perhaps next Saturday we will be able to get Gill & Harris to accompany us on a Bunny Blasting Trek through "The Vallie Of The Man Eating Rabbit". I have to try real hard to make these places sound really scary, So these guys will go .... I guess they like scary places.

I've got plenty of 410 shells, so don't worry about that. I just don't want you shooting 15 times at a single rabbit Let me know a couple of days ahead of time, when you want to go.

Going to go to my brother Jim's place this morning in hopes of bagging a few bunnies, if we do not have much luck there, we will come back here and hunt the creek bottom. Cleaned all my muzzle loaders and put them away for the year and got out my trusty Mossburg 3 round bolt action 410, really a light weight shotgun but it's the price of the 410 shells that will break your back. Will be heading out about 8:30 - 9:A.M. and will check back and let everyone know how we did.

I was thinking about you today, buddy. I was thinking "It sure would be nice if Gill were here to stomp this brush for me". Kicked 4 bunnies, I shot at two and got one. Jim shot at three and missed three. I think he was using those shot-less shot shells Next time we will hunt our holler. Babe did very well but she's old and it is really starting to show. maybe come Spring, I'll start looking for a pup. Think I'll name it ...... Gill. ;D

Went out this morning and jumped 3, shot one then ... I found a HAWK that appeared to have some wing injury ... it was perched on a root of a tree .... got all puffed up when I got close ..... I didn't know how long it had been there SO I tossed it my rabbit.
ZAP!! That Hawk jumped on that rabbit and started chowing down, I didn't want to get to close and I don't know what to do about it.
Several years ago I found a dead Owl in my yard and re-ported it like I thought I was suppose to do. I was treated like a criminal by the INDNR, They accused me of killing the Owl.
I guess I'll let nature take its course.

OK Jerry, I'll see what happens. About that Hawk, I couldn't just leave it out there so I called the Cass County Sheriffs office and they put me in touch with the INDNR's North Regen and they referred me to an animal rescue in Carrol County. The place is called "Wildcat Wildlife Center" wildcatwildlifecenter.org/ Its run by two really wonderful ladies that have a great love for all animals. The Hawk I found is a "Rough Legged Hawk", I guess its rare. www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Rough-legged_Hawk/id

I am thinking that this was just one lazy Hawk, he seen you shoot that rabbit and thought, " maybe if I sit here and act like I'm hurt, that old guy will give me his rabbit ! " Lazy or smart that ol hawk knew what he was doing Gill
